Early morning sunlight floods the cottage
As the feather comforter lulls me back to sleep
the man I love stirs beside me
My eyes open to see he is up on one elbow
Inches from mine - alert blue eyes
reflect tenderness and desire
“I love you” he whispers, leaning down to kiss me
After a long pause, he murmurs
“A LOT!”
I burst out laughing, breaking the mood
This love of mine is many things
a romantic wordsmith is not one of them
