The Unimaginable
soft blond locks slip to the kitchen floor
a cotton towel shrouds shoulders
catching strands as they fall
snip, snip of scissors
the only sound - her sobs are silent
hands gently lift chemo damaged hair
trim around ears; fluff bangs into playful spikes
he stands back to admire novice handiwork
“thank you” whispered, while straw broom sweeps away
evidence of emotional carnage
two halves together - find strength
to do the unimaginable
